CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION | SUSTAINOVATION From Learning to Action for the Environment and Community.
On 29 September 2026, the Sustainovation Project for Semester 1/2026 organized the Carbon Footprint Reduction activity at Suan Phai Khon Mueang by Lung Mitr. As the concluding activity of the project, the event encouraged students to reflect on the environmental impacts of various activities throughout the semester and learn through hands-on participation in caring for the community space.
The project was honored by the presence of Associate Professor Theerawat Hungsapruek, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences who who actively supported joined the activity to encourage students’ engagement in sustainability and community development. Together with Assistant Professor Dr. Wanamina Bostan Ali, Assistant Dean for Quality Development and International Relations; and Dr. Duangtida Pattano, Lecturer in Business Administration, Major in MICE Management, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, who have been instrumental in initiating, supporting, and driving the Sustainovation Project forward.
At the same time, the project was made possible through the collaboration of Mr. Nimit Saengket (Lung Mitr) and Ms. Udomrat Boonsopa (Aunt Dom) from Suan Phai Khon Mueang by Lung Mitr, together with Mr. Wilas Wunkaew, Director of the Social Welfare Division, Khlong Hae Municipality, and the Khlong Hae Municipality working committee. Through this collaboration, the university, local government, and community came together to care for the area and create opportunities for shared learning and meaningful community engagement.
As part of this collaborative effort, students successfully planted 100 trees. Together with another 80 trees planted through various activities under the Sustainovation Project throughout the semester, the project has contributed to planting a total of 180 trees. Beyond increasing green space and contributing to the restoration of Suan Phai Khon Mueang, the tree-planting activity also encouraged students to recognize that every activity involves the use of resources and generates greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the activity highlighted the importance of finding ways to reduce environmental impacts while creating meaningful benefits for the area and the community.
In addition, students designed and presented an informational sign sharing the background and story of “Suan Phai Khon Mueang by Lung Mitr”, helping communicate the history, value, and significance of the area to visitors. The initiative also contributes to developing the site as a “Community Classroom”, connecting students’ learning with real-world settings and local community knowledge.
From understanding impacts to taking action to reduce them and taking shared responsibility for the environment and community.
For Sustainovation, sustainability is not merely a concept. It is about learning to understand our impacts, use resources responsibly, and take action to create meaningful benefits for the places and communities in which we engage.
